Coming Soon: Get Your $59 Background Check Fee Refunded on LocalFixx

Coming soon on LocalFixx: once this feature deploys, completing your Checkr background check will pay for itself. This isn't live yet — we're publishing this now so you know it's on the way and can plan around it. When it launches, we'll update the Vendor Portal and send a notification to every pro with a paid background check on file.

Here's the honest problem this is built to solve. A background check is one of the few upfront costs LocalFixx asks a pro to pay out of pocket. The Checkr check runs $59, and for a new pro who hasn't booked a job yet, that fee can feel like a toll you pay before you've made a dime — even though everyone, homeowners included, is better off when the marketplace is full of verified pros. The refund is our way of saying: if you do the check and then prove yourself on real jobs, we'll give the $59 back.

What the Background Check Fee Refund actually does

Once this launches, it works like this: after you pay for and pass your Checkr background check, LocalFixx tracks your job activity. Complete 3 real, platform-mediated jobs — meaning jobs that came through LocalFixx's own matching and were marked completed, not jobs you logged yourself — and the system automatically refunds your $59 background check fee to the original payment method you used to pay for it. No form to fill out, no request to submit. It runs on its own.

A few specifics worth knowing so there's no confusion when it goes live:

  • Only jobs completed after you paid for your background check count toward the 3. Old job history from before you got checked doesn't retroactively qualify you.
  • Manual or self-logged "outside jobs" — the ones you add yourself to your own job log — do not count. Only jobs that were matched and completed through the platform count.
  • A job with a dispute resolved against you (fault found on your side, or a refund issued to the customer because of something you did) doesn't count toward the 3. A dispute that was resolved in your favor doesn't hurt you — it still counts.
  • The refund goes back to whatever payment method you originally used to pay the $59. You don't need to do anything to claim it.

In plain terms: this rewards pros who get verified and then actually go do good work on the platform. It's not a signup bonus, and it's not something you can game by logging fake jobs — it's tied to real, verified, dispute-free completions.

How to actually use it, step by step

When the feature is live, here's what it will look like from your side:

  1. Complete your Checkr background check through the Vendor Portal and pay the $59 fee, if you haven't already.
  2. Take real jobs through LocalFixx's matching system like you normally would — nothing changes about how you find or accept work.
  3. Finish each job and make sure it gets marked completed in the platform, the same way you already do.
  4. Keep an eye on your progress toward 3 qualifying jobs — the Vendor Portal will show where you stand once this ships.
  5. Once you hit 3 qualifying completions with no fault-of-provider dispute against you, the system automatically processes your refund. You'll see the $59 land back on your original payment method — no request needed.

That's the whole process. There's no separate application, no reimbursement form, and no waiting on a support ticket. The logic runs against your job history and does the refund on its own once you clear the bar.

Why this actually matters for your business

It's easy to look at $59 and shrug it off as small money. But for a pro who's new to a platform, deciding whether to spend on a background check before landing a single job is a real decision — and it's exactly the kind of upfront cost that makes people hesitate or put it off. This refund changes the math in a few concrete ways:

  • It lowers the real cost of getting verified to effectively zero, as long as you go on to actually work the platform.
  • It rewards the behavior that actually matters to your business anyway — booking and completing real jobs — rather than paying you just for signing up.
  • It gives you a concrete, visible reason to prioritize getting your background check done sooner rather than later, since the clock on qualifying jobs starts from your paid_at date, not whenever you get around to it.
  • It reinforces that being verified isn't just a compliance checkbox — it's something the platform is actively willing to subsidize because verified pros are worth more to the whole marketplace.

There's also a trust angle that's easy to overlook. A background check isn't just a hoop LocalFixx makes you jump through — it's part of what lets homeowners feel safe letting you into their house in the first place. Getting checked early means you're eligible for jobs and building trust signals from day one, instead of scrambling to get it done after you've already lost bids to pros who were verified first.

Heads up: this feature has not launched yet. Don't wait on it to decide whether to get your background check — if you haven't completed yours, do it now under the current process. The refund applies going forward once it ships; watch the Vendor Portal and your notifications for the announcement.

The bigger picture: how to think about background checks and verification as a trade pro

Whether or not you work through LocalFixx, background checks and verification credentials are becoming a standard part of doing business in the trades — especially anywhere you're going into someone's home. It's worth thinking about this the same way you think about licensing or insurance: not as a cost you avoid, but as a credential you invest in because it opens doors.

A few things worth knowing about background checks in a home-services context generally:

  • Most reputable home-services platforms and property management companies require some form of background screening before they'll let a pro onto their network or job sites — it's not a LocalFixx-specific quirk.
  • Background checks typically look at criminal history and sometimes verify identity and address history. They're not the same as a credit check, and they don't evaluate your work quality — that's what ratings and reviews are for.
  • A background check is a one-time or periodic cost, not a recurring fee. Compare that against what you might lose in bids from customers (or platforms) that simply won't consider unverified pros.
  • If you work across multiple platforms or take on direct customers outside any platform, a completed, current background check is a credential you can mention in your own marketing and quotes — customers increasingly ask for it, even for smaller jobs.
  • Keep records of when you completed background checks and any renewal dates, the same way you'd track your license renewal or insurance certificate expiration. It's one more thing that separates pros who run a tight operation from pros who don't.

The broader lesson: verification costs are front-loaded, but the payoff compounds. A background check you pay for once keeps opening doors — more platforms, more property managers, more homeowners who screen before they hire — for as long as it stays current. Treat it as an investment in your ability to win work, not an expense to minimize.

What to do right now

If you're a LocalFixx pro who hasn't completed your Checkr background check yet, don't wait for this refund to launch before doing it — getting verified now means you're already eligible for jobs that require it, and it means the clock on your 3 qualifying jobs can start the moment the refund feature goes live. If you've already paid for and passed your check, keep doing what you're already doing: take real jobs through the platform, finish them clean, and keep disputes off your record. When this ships, you'll already be most of the way to getting your $59 back without lifting a finger.
